The Liebster Award

liesbster-2015-nominationSo the other day I found myself at work at an ungodly hour, hardly able to keep my eyes open. Idly I opened my WordPress app, to find I had a comment waiting for me. The lovely Jessica from This Is Not A Beauty Blog had nominated me for a Liebster Award!

I had heard of this award once before, but never thought I’d end up in line for one. Basically, the Liebster Award is an award made for bloggers by bloggers, discovering new blogs. The award aims to put the spotlight on new bloggers and give them a chance to shine and get known here in the blogging world. The award comes with a few rules:

  1. Put the Liebster Award logo on your blog
  2. Thank and tag the blog who nominated you
  3. Answer their questions and come up with 10 new ones for your nominees
  4. Nominate 8 blogs (with less than 200 followers), let them know you’ve nominated them and link them in your post
  5. No tag-backs

These were the questions put to me by Jessica:

1. Coffee or tea?
Tea. Coffee gives me a headache, although I love the smell. And even with tea, more often than not I prefer a fruit/herbal variety – I’m not a big caffeine addict at all!

2. Biggest pet peeve?
Rude commuters. Luckily my work hours mean I don’t always travel at peak times, but when I do I am always bowled over by how rude people can be. Pushing, shoving, the lack of little courtesies and politeness. I get that everyone’s in a rush these days (I often am!), but there is no excuse for rudeness and contempt for others.

3. Favourite type of dessert?
Bella Italia do this amazing Cookie Dough Lava Cake, which is one of the best desserts I’ve ever had. My mum also used to make an epic white chocolate cheesecake when I was younger, as a dessert for dinners with family and friends. Either of those would hit the spot every time!

4. If you could change one thing about yourself, what would you change and why?
I am a chronic worrier – I will worry about anything and everything, silly or serious. It’s something I inherited from my Dad and my Nanny before him, and it gets a little consuming every now and then. It’s involuntary and it can take over my life to a degree, so I wish I could just kick back and relax sometimes.

5. TV show you can’t get enough of?
Now don’t hate me, but I have a bad habit of watching some trashy TV. It’s the perfect switch off at the end of a stressful day at work, and my current obsesion is The Real Housewives of Cheshire. Set against the backdrop of swanky Cheshire mansions, castles, bars, boutiques and boxing rings, it is the ultimate in glossy trash, and I love settling in to watch it and disengage my brain for an hour!

6. Favourite item in your purse or backpack right now?
Right now my favourite item in my handbag is my lipbalm. My lips get so chapped and dry, especially during the winter, so the Nivea Pearly Shine is perfect for keeping them hydrated.

7. What is your favourite book, and why?
This is so hard! I have so many favourite books, I could never pick just one. Different books have influenced me at different stages of my life, and there are perennial favourites which have stayed with me over the years.

8. If you could speak another language, which one would you choose?
I wish I were bilingual! I took French and German at GCSE, and German to AS Level, at school. Sadly the skills haven’t stuck around much since then. I would probably choose German, as long-lost relatives on my mum’s side live out in Baden-Würrtemburg, and I would love to be able to track them down. If not that, I would probably choose Swedish, as I have some Swedish friends and would love to be able to chat to them in their first language and see how it differs!

9. What do you think if the most fun part about blogging?
Discovering the adventures and complexities that make up other people’s lives and make them tick. I have read some amazing stories over the time I have been blogging and reading blogs, and now I am tentatively branching out and trying to connect with other bloggers, I am finding out just how friendly this online community is!

10. And finally Dogs or Cats?
Dogs. No contest. I love cats, but dogs win hands down in my eyes. I behave towards dogs the way some women behave towards babies – cutesy voices and cooing galore! I embarrass the people I’m with when I do it…

My eight nominees with less than 200 followers (and highly worthy of a bit of recognition for their wonderful blogs!) are as follows:

Follow Your Sunshine

The Hopeful WayfarerA Certain Adventure
As A Blonde
Creative Countryside
Little Observationist
Imogen Scribbles

My questions for these lovely ladies are as follows:

+ (Because I am a massive Harry Potter nerd) What would your Patronus be?
+ If you could only listen to two CDs for the rest of your life, what would they be?
+ What do you think is your strongest personality trait?
+ What is your favourite season?
+ If you could take a time machine to one moment in history, what would it be and why?
+ Tell me a secret…
+ What is your favourite quote? (Motivational or funny)
+ Tell me about a book that changed your life
+ Recommend me a new blog to read
+ What is the one piece of advice you would give your teenage self?

Once again, thank you so much to Jessica for the nomination. Do go and check out my nominated blogs, they’re well worth a few minutes of your time for a read! Happy Monday y’all.
